Study Time

The holidays have passed and now my midterm tests and quiz have magically merged themselves into next week. I had to miss a photo session that was organized by Unitar Photography Club today just so I could have the extra study time. =/

Lanterns

This is just another photo I took before Chinese New Year. This was actually in front of the Japanese restaurant, Hana in City Mall. I'm not sure but the writing on the lanterns might be Japanese. :D

Glee

I don't always I post photos of myself on this blog, but here it is :)

I tried to get the lighting like the poster photos that they did for the Glee series. I'm not sure if I got it close enough though.

Don't laugh at me or call me kampung style because I don't have professional equipment. I can definitely do much better when I have the right lights. This is just an experiment anyways.

The main light was a DIY Softbox I made fitted on a light which was to the left of me, A fill light from a fluorescent tube directly ahead of me and a foam board reflector to my right.

The rest was done with Adobe Photoshop to create the background color and the text.

Fireworks

The Chinese new year was greeted with hundreds of colorful fireworks sent exploding into the night sky. The spectacular display lasted for quite a while as people from all over the city were using up as much as they could for that very moment, as if competing with each other ;p It really sounded as if it was war.

This is actually my first time capturing fireworks :)

These are some of the fireworks that I captured. Before and after the new year. A couple of the photos have black lines across them because of the power lines that were outside my house. The second photo appears to have a spiralling effect because of the camera shake.

The photos are all taken at 5 seconds shutter on a tripod [except for the third photo which was hand-held with the shutter at BULB] with the aperture at f/14 with my 18-55mm kit lens.

Canon PIXMA MP198

The printer in my home had gone bust so here is the replacement. This is the Canon PIXMA MP198 3-in-1 printer. It is a copier, scanner, and printer combination.

The scanner is awesome because I can now scan old film images of my family and save it in digital format.

While it is good having the extra functionality, the downside to this is its size (It looks like a mammoth compared to everything else on my desktop table).

This image was easy enough to take. All I had to do was get the lighting right, and separated the printer from the messy background in Adobe Photoshop using a layer mask, then adding a faded reflection below it.

Lighting Test

These photos of Bernard were taken last month. All shot in my computer room, with the same settings as before; using a single fluorescent tube as a light source and a home made reflector.

Yeah I know, Improvised stuff, because studio equipment are expensive =/

It was still fairly dark and I was forced to use ISO400 and one of these was shot with ISO 800. Both were shot with an aperture of f/2.8

All I that was left to do was Color Correction in post processing.
