The Edge Of Glory

Mahira, Nadine and I went out on a photo shoot several days ago on Friday. We decided that the shoot location was to be at the Suria Sabah car park. It was like a dream working with my new 17-55mm f/2.8 lens during the shoot. I'm very happy with the way the photos turned out.

I didn't bring any special lighting equipment here except for a reflector and a Canon 430 EX II flash. Some of these were shot with natural light and some with flash bounced off the ceiling. Big thanks to Nadine for once again being amazing in front of the camera and to Mahira for being a huge help around the shoot and for driving us around town :p

You'll Never Walk Alone

Here's a couple of photos of Bernard wearing his new grey Liverpool 2011-2012 away jersey from Anfield. The background was of course inspired by the original shoot with Gerrard, Suarez and other Liverpool players. I made it using a close up shot of the jersey texture.

KK Jazz Festival 2011

I attended the KK Jazz Festival 2011 which was held at the Sutera Harbour Marina tennis court last saturday. It was the second day of the event.  It was great and we got to hear some amazing one man band style music from an Australian artist, Juzzie Smith. Here are some of my shots of the event.

Unirazak Unduk Ngadau 2011 Contestant Portraits

These are some portrait photos of the contestants that I was assigned to shoot before the pageant started. All four of them placed in the top five. The other contestants were assigned to different photographers. Congratulations again to all of them!

Our University recently held a Unduk Ngadau (Beauty Pageant) for the students to participate. It is a cultural event held normally during the Kaamatan (Harvest Festival) here in Sabah. The girls wore varying traditional Unduk Ngadau costumes.

Here are some of the photos from the event. Congratulations to Pheona Aeon for winning first place, Mandy Amanda Nikko and Cheryl Joanne for getting second and third place respectively. Well done to the other contestants as well! I will be posting more on Facebook soon.

Lunar Eclipse

Bernard and I went on the roof yesterday night to view the lunar eclipse. It was a cloudy and freezing night. I shot some photos of the moon before it entered the eclipse phase but it disappeared behind the clouds at 2.50am. It wasn't until 3.47am when the clouds slightly cleared and revealed the moon but this time with an eerie reddish glow.

I started taking pictures but the moon was still in the early stages of the eclipse. It vanished again at 3.55am until way past the total eclipse climax which was predicted to be at 4.15am. I waited desperately till 4.47am but to no avail. The clouds didn't clear up so I decided called it quits.

It was fun at least, although only being able to see it for several minutes. We also found out that it was actually quite nice to fall asleep on the roof.

The first photo was shot before the eclipse and the second photo was during the eclipse. I couldn't get any closer shots because I don't have a lens that could zoom far enough. I was using my Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 lens that night.

Here are some exclusive photos from the Miss Earth Sabah 2011 Final at the 1Borneo Grand Ballroom on the 11th June 2011. Olivia Vun Kai Li was crowned the new Miss Earth Sabah 2011 while Vanessa Samantha Manih, Kieren Laurent Simon, and Crystel Eve Hominodun made it to the top four. Also present at the event were Appey Rowena, the winner of Miss Earth Malaysia 2010 and also May Salitah Naru Kiob, the winner of Miss Earth Sabah 2010.

The Miss Earth 2011 event was organized by Mandy Nandu Events MNE who worked tirelessly throughout the entire competition. There were song performances from various artists like Marsha Milan Londoh and Datuk DJ Dave, and other local artists. Other performances include a riveting drama about the dangers of destroying nature and using up natural resources as well as an electrifying popping dance performance by Steve Johnson Charlotte.

Throughout the night, the 12 finalists were put through their paces modelling bikini's, self-made Eco dresses, and evening gowns. The top 7 were chosen by the judges and were subjected to a tough question and answer session. The judges then made their final decision and passed the results to the emcee who revealed the runner ups and the winner.

Congratulations to Olivia Vun Kai Li for winning first place and to all the finalists for their terrific effort!
