Urbanization

 Credits
Model : Nadine
Assistant : Mahira

I went through my archive and decided that I wanted to dig up some photos from a shoot done about three years ago. It gave me a chance to go through photos that I may have missed out and give them the look that I actually wanted to at the time but did not know how. I shot these with my old faithful Canon EOS 1000D with the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens. Lighting was done with a lot of help from Mahira holding up a reflector. The shots remind me of how extremely hot the location was. Credits to Nadine for not even complaining about it as much as we were. Lol.

Try to get the best out of your equipment; be it a cheap or expensive camera by learning its functions in depth. Once you know what you're doing, you can concentrate all your efforts on making great pictures. I have always considered technique and execution to play an important role in photography. It ties the other important factors like lighting, subject, and background of a photograph together.

No amount of editing in Photoshop can turn a badly taken photo into something even worthy of a professional standard. It is important to put more effort into getting everything right straight out of the camera first, and then use Photoshop to complete the look of the image if you must. I tend to envision my edits even before the shoot. Editing is part of the creative process, it depends on what the photographer wants to achieve.

At The Skate Park

A few photos from a trip to the skate park in Likas with Azhar, Nerry, and Mahira. I didn't bring my DSLR on the day because I was carrying a lot of other things. In the end, these are the few shots I took with my iPod Touch.

Lightning Storm

If you live around Kota Kinabalu, then you might have noticed yesterday that there was a lot of lightning in the clouds which lasted almost the whole night.

I was in the car when I snapped this photo. It was pretty difficult to do because the car was constantly moving but I kept shooting every time I saw a flash in the clouds and luckily enough I caught this one with some lightning. I did catch more photos with lightning but they were too little or just blurred.

The lightning came around at random intervals of around 3-7 seconds apart. With very little or no thunder most of the time from where I was viewing it.

Shutter settings used were 1/25 at f/2.2 @ ISO 1600

SPCA Kota Kinabalu Gaya Street Booth (11th October, 2009)

SPCA Kota Kinabalu [Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals] had organised a booth in gaya street to raise awareness to the public about responsible pet ownership. There were SPCA T-Shirts, pet collars, and napkins on for sale as well as some home cooked food by the members of the SPCA.

Local pet store, Paragon were also present selling their products and donating 100% of the proceeds to the SPCA.

We were also helped by Miss Malaysia Earth 2009 contestant, Madelyne Nandu who will be competing at Boracay Ecovillage Resort and Convention Center, in the Island of Boracay, Phillipines on November 22nd, 2009.

Her arrival had sparked a vast crowd to the booth as people were clamouring to get a glimpse of her. She had also got people to sign up, purchase SPCA T-shirts, etc. as well as donate to the SPCA.

So the next time you come across an SPCA booth, sign up and join to help those who cant speak for themselves. :)
